The Caldon canal starts from Stoke-on-Trent and finishes at Froghall with a spur to the market town of Leek. The Caldon's Leek branch turns off after some nine miles and as many locks over an aqueduct at Hazelhurst Junction to the Staffordshire textile town some two and a half miles (and no locks) further. The main line meanwhile covers another eight miles and as many locks, swapping it's navigation in and out of the River Churnet through some startling scenery as it makes for its terminus at Froghall from whence it was originally built in 1779 to carry quarried limestone. The moorings are close to Cheddleton.
